4 Reasons Why You Need to Prepare Your SEO for Web3

Being found on the internet is more important today than ever before, and most people search for information or services you might offer using Google or Bing. So being visible in online search engines is crucial to attracting customers. Moreover, your website is also the business card of your organization. It should look inviting and contain the information your visitor was expecting to find.

Are you an NFT creator? Or maybe a crypto blogger? Or are you part of a DAO? Or is your company build on a blockchain? If you said yes to any of the previous questions, then it is probably important that your website is found in search engines such as Google and Bing, and even more important: in the future search engines in Web3!

In the below article I give you my most important reasons for investing in SEO as a crypto, blockchain, DeFi, FinTech, or Web3 company.

1. You need trust and authority.

Search engine optimization not only ensures an increased number of visitors, but it also determines how those visitors experience your website – and therefore also your company or organization. Is the site nicely constructed? Is the information you are looking for easily found? Is it well-written and relevant? Does the site load fast? 

All those aspects help determine how much trust your company exudes and how authoritative you are in your market. In the industry of crypto, web3 and blockchain it’s incredibly important to gain trust and show that you’re knowledgable on the subject. And the more trust and authority, the more Google will love it too! 

2. Better late than never

Sounds lame, I know, but this cliche is sooo true. 

SEO, no matter how well done, is not going to bring you results tomorrow. You should go with ads if you want results tomorrow (and you will pay for it!). 

SEO brings you results in the future. It is for the companies with patience that want to increase their organic traffic AND KEEP IT. 

If you invest in SEO now, you will benefit from your efforts for a long period of time. 

But if you don’t jump on this SEO train today, you will have to wait even longer before you see that sweet organic traffic rolling into your website. And since the crypto/blockchain industry moves even faster than any other niche, you better be on board and ready to move! 

3. Advertising is hard for crypto and blockchain-related companies

Google is very strict with its rules and requirements for advertising. We know that some subjects are banned from advertising on its platform, like tobacco, gambling, etc. 

Crypto and blockchain advertisers are also experiencing a hard time when it comes to keeping advertising accounts live. I have heard too many clients complain about getting banned, losing access to their accounts, or being completely blocked on YouTube (like Bankless experienced this May)!! 

Therefore it’s important to have a strong SEO-for-crypto-game going. You don’t want to depend on one channel and risk losing all incoming traffic by some external (centralized) source!

4. You’ll be prepared for SEO in Web3 

Web3 will change SEO, for sure. We just don’t know how exactly yet. But we can guess a few things. 

A prediction for Web3 is that there will be better results for voice searches and images since every visual is an NFT or tokenized. And you can easily optimize your current content for voice search already! 

Imagine your ideal customer using a voice search with “Can I buy ABC token on DEF Exchange with GHI credit card?”. If you add this specific question to your FAQ page and answer it right away with “Yes, you can buy an ABC token on DEF Exchange with a GHI credit card.” your answer will already be added to the featured snippets in Google (web2). In web3 it will exactly be the same, but for example with voice: 

customer: Can I buy ABC token on DEF Exchange with GHI credit card?
voice answer (image Alexa voice here): Yes, you can buy ABC token on DEF Exchange with GHI credit card. 

Answer the question above with “If you want to buy ABC token on DEF Exchange, you can choose different payment methods. You can pay with Paypal, your credit card, and for example wire transfers. The following are the banks and credit cards that are supported on this exchange… ” 

Imagine Alexa answering that question with a long answer… Exactly…

Keep it short, sweet, and direct. It’s what your customer wants to hear. 

One of the other things that Web3 will get rid of is all plagiarismists (great word btw!) by making everything NFTs. Text, images, graphic designs, infographics, logos, etc. All will be an NFT and only the true owner can use it or will rank for it. We have to see how the future algorithms will work with this tho.

Another thing that most likely will change with Web3 is the disappearance of middlemen like hosting partners. In Web2 you pay yearly fees for a domain at GoDaddy, a CMS at WordPress, and hosting at Bluehost (for example). In Web3 you will buy your domain once at UnstoppableDomains, code, and host your website yourself. No more middlemen with yearly fees and everything will be yours until you sell it!
